Analysts said on Monday they believed that the initiative in the CNPC would see an improved market focus and a more flexible company, making it more vigorous and competitive in the global marketplace.

Analysts from Beijing-based market tracker Qimingpian wrote in a survey released in April that Chinese food and beverage companies, especially those with a larger domestic market share, have accelerated mergers and acquisitions in overseas markets. Chinese companies carried out at least 31 major overseas mergers and acquisitions between 2013 and 2018.

Analysts said creation of energy conglomerates is expected to help coordinate the coal and electricity markets and improve resource allocation to increase profits.

Analysts attributed the growing technical strength of the firms to higher research input. Data from annual reports showed that the combined research and development (R&D) expenditure of the firms totaled 59.91 billion yuan (.8 billion) in 2018, up 15.69 percent year-on-year.

Analysts believe the price rally was caused by the countrywide blizzard, which has blocked highways and boosted demand for heating.
